Behind the first-person stories

The hat is orange for a reason

Gus Pike in the illustrated story world

Gus Pike

Orange hat. Purple shirt. A boat that makes three different noises, none of them reassuring. That’s me. I live in an imagined Big Bass Bonanza lakeside town where every quiet evening has the potential to become a story nobody believes at breakfast. I build lures from whatever is nearby and measure success by how much I have to explain when I get home.

I once left my hat on the dock and spent twenty minutes looking for it from the boat. Now it is the brightest thing on the lake. My other systems are less advanced. The tackle box has a broken latch; the notebook has a page devoted entirely to sandwich plans. This journal keeps the good catches, the near misses and the moments when the fish seemed to understand the situation better than I did.

ONE MORE CAST: a character’s point of view

One More Cast is a fictional comic-style fishing journal inspired by Big Bass Bonanza. Gus Pike and his mishaps are original inventions. This site is independent of the game’s publisher and operators.

The bright panels follow Gus’s comic timing, but the complete episode is always available as readable prose. Near misses stay in the collection alongside successful catches. There are no playable reels, paid entries or rewards behind the story buttons.

The line that explains the narrator

“It was definitely bigger than the sandwich. And that was a serious sandwich.”
